I just finished building my new machine after the children took over the old one. Unfortunately, the new build is not working. I powered it once with the motherboard not attached to the case, and only CPU and RAM inserted... it worked fine. I could see display.
After that I attached the motherboard to the case, and after connecting everthing I only get long repeated beeps. I disconnected everything and left again only CPU and RAM, and still the same. I took out the RAM and still long repeated beeps. I reinserted the RAM and took out the CPU and no beeps, but no display obviously. Reinserting the CPU got the same result of repeated long beeps.
I checked some beep codes, and it seems that long repeated beeps is RAM for AWARD Bios. I reinserted the RAM properly and still just beeps. Could it be the CPU? The motherboard? Or just the RAM?
Just in case, and I am not sure, but it might be possible that I connected a wrong connector to the aTX 12 V for the cPU (4 pins) The power supply is an ultra V 500W, it has has an 8 pins connector, and a 6 pins that looks similar. It doesn't have a 4 pins for the CPU. One of those should be PCI express, but the curious thing is that GND and 12 V are reversed between them. I am pretty sure I inserted the right one (yellow closer to the retention tab, the 8 pins) but I was so excited to power it up that I might have inserted the wrong one and not realizing it until it didn't power up. idisconnected everything after the first failure, so I am not fully sure I screwed up that one. What could be fried if that was the case?
Thanks as usual, this community has saved by sorry behind several times and I hope this time wil be no diferent.
