I'm using a Duron 900MHZ CPU. My multiplier is set to 9 and CPU frequency set to 100MHZ. Is this right? Shouldn't the CPU frequency be at 200? I'm in the jumperless mode. My floppy, ide and Cd-rom are all recognized in the startup screen. My floppy drive LED lights up for about 5 seconds when it starts reading data but after that the light shuts off and the computer locks up, it won't boot. This is a brand new system and the initial setup. Please help. I double checked all my connections.

Back off . . . go to your BIOS and set everything for the optimal defaults and start over. Make sure that the boot disk you are using is a good one and has been proven on another computer.

Don't worry about the CPU speed - jumperless mode, right? - is your CPU fan working, does it have heat transfer compound stuff on it?

Try disconnecting everything - hard drives and all - and boot to the bios. If that doesn't work, recheck cpu, ram, agp, etc.

Also I had a floppy fail cause I bent two of the end pins with the ide cable, but bending them back made it work. So far.

Good luck.

I just discovered something in my Bios setting. In the submenu I/O Device Configuration from the Advance menu the second line doesn't even exist like it shows in the manual which says "Floppy Disk Access Control [R/W]. Does this mean I have a defective MB? Also, after my computer gets locked up and its on for about five minutes its starts beeping continuously. Overheating?? I purchased the retail version of the Duron and have the heatsink/ fan installed in addition to a case fan.
