Help networking wireless printer.

I was over at my parents and my dad wanted me to connect his wireless printer to his pc. When going through the setup on the printer it needs a passphrase from the router. Problem is, in the routers configuration it shows the passphrase but it doesn't show the actual letters/numbers. It just displays as dots or asterisks.

I know I originally set this up but I would have asked him what passphrase he wanted and he has no idea.

So, I can change it (I think it will let me) but then will their kindle/laptop work or will I have to reconfigure them with the new passphrase?

Kinda related note and this one is weird to me. I took my sons ipod over to their house yesterday (before i messed with the printer) and to give it access to their network I had to enter the password to the routers configuration page. IOW the password used when you go to http://192.168.0.1 and enter admin and then a password. That's the one I entered. I wold have thought it would need something like the above mentioned passphrase????

Thanks for any help.

BTW from memory the router was d-link 614, I think. printer was hp 8550 all in one. I might be a little off on the model #'s.
