im having trouble seeing my mac from my pc and vice a verca. Both behind a firewall/router, both can access the internet. I want to use the mac as a drop box for files that can be accessed from other pcs. how do i do this?

I installed the appletalk protocal on the pc but i still cant see the mac

i tried using pc maclan software and it works, i can see the mac and its files. but the software costs 190 dolllars! any cheaper solutions?

well,
I am not sure about cheaper part, but Windows 2000 server has a service for Macinosh option which works quite well.
Once installed it allows you to setup a share that will be accessible by Win2k server and by Mac....
Hope that helps!

If you are running Mac OS X, you can use Samba to make your mac appear as a Windows fileserver on the net. If you are using Mac OS 9.x, then your choices are limited to:

1) PC Maclan on the pc as you tried
2) Services For Macintosh on NT4 Server or W2K server as mentioned above
3) DAVE on you mac
4) Or maybe running an ftp server on you mac

maybe others know more about it...
