Hello, I own a Samsung DVD ROM drive, and the model number is: SD-616E. I have searched all over the Samsung website, but I can't seem to find any firmware for this! the only reason I want to do this is because my drive has a driver from the year 2001 on it 😱 I think some of the noise the drive makes, and load times in some games (like unreal 2k4 dvd edition) are attributed to this. If anyone could help me find a download site for the firmware, I would be very thankful... THANKS 🙂

If your drive is installed properly, i really doubt firmwae is going to make it work much better - it's not like some cdrw drives that could enable p-cav (better than z-clv) recording and stuf like that. It's probably slow because it's slow, in all honesty - probably not more than a 32x cd reader.

A new, faster dvd-rom drive can be had dirt cheap, so if it's really too slow for you, I'd suggest replacing it.

I got this on newegg, a month ago, brand spankin' new, I didnt think it was that old, but I guess so 🙁

Well, here's a thought, I have been noticing a high pitched noise from my system, and only after I installed my Audigy 2 ZS did I notice this, the only reason I could think of that would remotely make sense is the digital output cord the card comes with, it requests you attach it to your optical drive. Could this be causing it? The whine completely stops when I put my system into standby, leaving the case, cpu, and psu fans on only.
