Help needed with windows sound

I have an abit nf7-s mobo and using the onboard sound. The other day i swapped cases and for some reason my audio out to the front speakers (green port) has stopped working but the center and rear audio channels work fine. I uninstaklled the nforce sound and reinstaleld the drivers and they still do not work. I am convinced that somehow the port is dead. Here is where things suck more. After i uninstaleld and reinstalled the sound my windows sound no longer works. I am able to play mp3z in winamp and videos with sound on windows media player but none of my windows sounds work (such as the login and logout sounds, when i empty my recycling bin etc) or any sounds online like in flash movies. I have looked everywhere and the nforce sound is chosen. How do i get the sounds to play?
all help is appreciated

look in control panel>sound and audio devices and see if windows has muted or changed the volume controls

it is not and if it was muted there i wouldn't be able to hear any sounds at all

if you access sounds and audio devices and change the sound scheme back to windows default, does that work?

does the browse by event/preview sounds button work?

nope even if you put back the default sound theme or enthire windows theme it doesn't play any sounds through windows or online also where you do change the sound theme when you try and preview sounds it plays them because i can see the play button change to a stop button and at the right length goes back to being a play button but no sound is heard

V.Strange..........

Is it possible you've managed to get a short on the motherboard when you swapped cases? seems strange it's just stopped working just after you installed it in another case..........

yeah that is what i think happened to the front audio port but i am not concerned with that, the other ports work fine and like i said mp3, video, and game sounds work fine but windows and webpage sounds do not so it is a windows problem something happened when i uninstalled the sound drivers and reinstalled them
