Help needed with set up and configuration of netgear rp614 router

First tries have failed and brought some bad stuff onto my computer.

Purpose of router is purely firewall and pass through for single user (me) use.

Want to stop the bad guys from sending stuff to my computer, including netgear, if they are a bad guy.

Have so-called Web safe rp614v4

took a little while.. figured out that you need to input admin for user and password for password.. earlier attempts to log in failed.

Priority is security, followed by speed.. and security and process protection for freedom from over cpu use and speed concers.. but first thing is to get it installed without getting junk on my pc and then, if junk.. remove and then configure for best results.

Looking for any help and advice and suggestions and.. if needed advice on quicker, faster better router out there, if netgear can't or won't do the job.

Security vise there is no real differences between Cable/DSL Routers.

Entry Level Cable/DSL Routers NAT Firewall can be used to provide very basic protection, and more is needed.
