was updating BIOS to 1.20, all was going well, and got to the point where I was directed to reboot the computer...so I hit the reset button on the case, the fans whir and the computer starts, but no post beep and nothing on the screen...total darkness on the monitor...any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance..

the install guide for the MB discourages clearing CMOS immediately after a BIOS update...didn't try it...think that I should?

When all else fails, why not?

I've had the exact same problem. Updated to 1.2, passed, rebooted when prompted and then...blackness...I've cleared the CMOS and still nothing. I called Asrock and they basically said it was either my CPU fan or memory...right. I've read on other boards that if you keep turning on and off eventually it'll stick and you can boot up. I haven't tried that yet but I will tonight.

Even if it does come back, how do we prevent this from happening? Obviously this isn't a totally isolated incident as it's happened to more than one person with virtually the same results...

Same thing happened to me. Pull out all but the first RAM stick, then it should post... After you get into the bios and load defaults, you can put the rest of your RAM in.

Thanks much, masterfork. That did it. Three hours of mild discomfort over a freshly-built, no-posting rig is enough for me.
