Help Needed with new Gigabyte M/B

Hello. I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 motherboard with an AMD 1090T (Phenom II 3.2, 6 Core) processor. It has been a few years since my last build and have a few questions as so much has changed.

First of all, the motherboard comes with 2 sata leads and one IDE lead. What I'd like to know is which items of hardware should I use the sata for and which one for the IDE. I intend to use two DVD drives (one rewritable). I was figuring on using the hard disk on the IDE and the two satas for the DVD drives as I figured this would be the cheaper way to go as opposed to a sata hard disk.

Also, I am a bit unclear as to what memory I should be using. I have checked the compatibility lists on Gigabyte's website but am unsure what memory I should be using with this particular processor - with my last build, the type of memory depended on speed of processor. Maybe this is not an issue with this motherboard and can use DDR 1066, 1333, 1600, 1800 and so on?

I also need to know what sort of wattage I should be looking at in the PSU. I figure it should be pretty high though have no idea what they run at these days.

Any advice and tips much appreciated. Thanks.

Last I checked, PATA HDDs were more expensive than SATA and also SATA will give you better performance. Use one SATA HDD and one SATA Optical Drive and one IDE optical drive.

If I understand this correctly, your mobo can use DDR3 1333 and 1066 if you are not OCing and 1866 if you are OCing. I guess you can go with 1333, cheapest ones out there right now.

What kind of video card are you using if any? PSU wattage will depend on that. Without a Video card, you can do with even a 300 or 350 Watt PSU, even with a video card a 400 - 450 watt should be more than enough

Thanks for your help. I am not upto date with the latest graphics cards but want to spend around £150 on a GeForce card. I haven't played any games for a while but want the option of being able to play some decent ones if I want to. Can anyone recommend a good GeForce card around that price?

I am not sure how much they cost in EU but I guess you should get a good one for that price, try looking for GeForce GTX 460 or 465. If you dont mind ATI you can look for Radeon HD 6870
