Hi
Finally ,have obtained DSL @ 1.5kbs (scary speed ):Q
I am running a total of 3 machines (or at least trying to)🙁
2 win 2000 and 1 win 98
the phone/isp = sprint/earthlink
the supplied DSL Modem = SpeedStream 5260
new router NetGear RT311 + old 8 port SkyLink switch
I must add that unfortunatly I am a total twit when it comes to messing with settings and related items
I have got 1 puter, one of the win 2000 machines working just great
but trying to set up the router has been to put it mildly a @#$&%#! nightmare
i believe its to do with the connection software (WinPoEt) that is supplied to get you up and running
and i cant seem to find a way around it.I can`t access the net to configure the router with out using the winpoet.
Could any one help me out on this .Sorry to be such a pain but with step by step details. Thanks 😕

Most DSL provider use PPPOE protocol to authenticates the connection via User ID, and Password (that what WinPOET does).

The Cable/DSL Router replaces WinPOET.

You have to type the DSL ID and PW into the Router menu, and check in the Router menu the place to keep the connection alive (always on). Instruction to the specific Router will be in the Router Manual.

As long as you don't switch off the DSL Modem, and the Router you are connected "forever"

You can uninstall WinPOET and Netscape (or whatever software they dished you).

The Router's PPPOE capacity is independent from the Computer, and it keeps the connection alive.
