Help needed with my ECS k7s5a

Well I've been running this board for a couple months now, been working pretty well. But just tonight it gave me a lockup with a error that it was dumping the physical memory and to make sure I had an up to date BIOS (I don't). Now I can't get the thing to post (to update the BIOS or run Win). I have 1.4mhz - 512 2100 Crucial DDR - Radeon LE in it now, I don't have another video card to try, although I have tried reseating it a number of times (power disconnected). Is it possible the MB is dead? I'm not sure where to go from here, tried doing a search of the forums but found nothing I thought was applicable to my case.

Have you tried resetting the bios? My K7S5A has been lifeless a couple of times, and resetting the bios brought it back to life. You have to disconnect the power to the MB and then connect the bios reset jumper for a few seconds. But it back to normal setting and reconnect power, then it should boot up. I just flashed my first bios in my ABIT tonight. If you haven't done it before, check out the faqs before you do it.

I knew I forgot to include something...yes I did clear the CMOS, still no dice. Think I'll sleep on it and hope all is better in the morning, ggggrrrr wanted a new video card before a new MB

he final fix for my ECS K7S5a finally turned out to be a Shulltle AK31, so far at least, The ECS board lasted about 3 weeks before it refused to post. Good luck!

*sigh* not what I wanted to hear 🙁 Is there some sure fire way to tell if my MB is indeed dead?

Forst make certain you followed the abc's approach to troubleshooting by checking Here. Also, if you haven't already checked this out read K7S5A FAQS. If your using 2 sticks of ram then take them out one at a time and see if it'll boot as many have trouble when populating both slots. Good luck and let me know how you make out.

The K7S5A sure is an "interesting" board. The only way to fix 3 of the 6 boards of mine that failed was to use RossGr's method, I replaced them with Shuttle AK31A's. On the bright side half are still working OK.

Unplug the computer from the wall. Then unplug the power connector from the motherboard. Then move the clear CMOS jumper to the clear position, let it sit like that for at least 5 minutes (no cheating!). Then move the jumper back, connect the power connector, plug it back into the wall, and see if it will boot then.

ALL power, even the small residual voltages in the power supply, must be removed from the board in order for the BIOS to be cleared properly.
