OK I was sooo excited about my new system, ordered the following:
P4 1.6A from Googlegear(it's a costa rica chip if that means anything lol)
Epox 4G4A+ from Newegg(originally a refurb, but keep reading.....)
Corsair PC3200 from Googlegear
OK here's my horror story:
I get the board, and a new case, and the RAM and the CPU, put the whole shebang together, got sooo excited, reached for the power button, and what happens? NOTHING. At this point I felt like an idiot because I realized I had forgot to plug in the little power switch thingy and turn the PSU on on the back lol...(for the record it's a 350Watt Enhance that works fine).
OK so I hook those up, and press the power button...what happens? NOTHING....
I swap out the motherboard with my Shuttle AK31A to check if the new case has a faulty switch or something and to make sure my PSU hadn't suddenly died...it works fine...
So I put the Epox back in, rig it all up, still doesn't work.
I decide to RMA the 4G4A+ back to newegg, because it's a refurb after all, and had a good chance of being busted. So I order a NEW non-refurb 4G4A+ from Newegg...
Finally after waiting an eternity(probably only feels that way heh) I get the new board yesterday. Hook it all up again, blah blah blah, turn it on, what happens?
The speaker starts doing this siren beep-dee diiii deeee diiiii deeee diiiii deee diiiii....
Very annoying, no VGA, no booting, no nothing. I disconnect everything connected, except for the stick of RAM and CPU and try again, and the same god damn bep starts up. So finally I reseat the RAM(which I know works because I'm using it right now on my KT266A board) and it still beeps, I reseat the CPU, still beeps...
I look through the manual, website, blah blah, no help. So I figure since the green LED on the front is lit, that would mean the CPU was working right?(because my old P3 rig wouldn't turn on the power LED unless the CPU was in). So I take the CPU out and power it on...
Of course the stupid Power LED does work even without the CPU in, but then I couldn't shut the thing off....uh oh...
I click the power in the back off, and put the CPU back in and try to power up.....and now it's dead. Dead like uber dead. Hyper mega ultra dead.
So now my problem is: Is my CPU a busted CPU?! Isn't this a really rare thing for a damn CPU to be busted?! But it's also pretty rare for 2 intel chipped motherboards in a row to be busted too.....
Should I RMA the CPU? I don't have a 478 motherboard to test the northwood on, and I don't know anybody with a 478 motherboard in new york city. And should I bother RMAing the motherboard or is it something else causing problems?!
