Help needed to ID a movie

Was talking with a buddy and we got on racial movies. American History X was brought up and I am trying to remember the title to a movie I saw around the same time. It was pretty current if I recall. A white kid went to college, got his butt kicked by a black guy at a party and somehwat snapped. I think he started out with a black roomate and there was a scene where they were shooting from a clock tower or a similar location. I have searched for a bit an am coming up empty

Bingo, that's it. I searched for "Racial Issue based movies" "skin head" "nazi" "college tower shooting" and a ton of other stuff. Did you remeber it or just have better search skills than me?

I remembered Ice Cube was in the movie... so I searched under his name on imdb.

I remember one where a white guy goes to bed and wakes up the black. think it was made in the early seventies.
