Hi All,
I need some suggestion for a new laptop/desktop.
My primary use will be music, video editing, website development, and of course surfing.
I do open many windows at once as well.
I know that I have to look into the processor, and RAM, storage, and battery life as well.
I guess I7 with at least 8 gig ddr.
So is it better to get a laptop or a desktop?
I am not looking for a very high end.
Here are some that I have looked so far.

http://bit.ly/lenovo-y50-touch
http://bit.ly/asus-tower

Please suggest some.

Thanks in advance.
p.s. Not ruling out on MAC. But I am not used to on Apple products and I am aware that you can run microsoft stuff in parallel but might slow down.

I would recommend tackling these decisions one at a time/ Decide what kind of device you want, then work on the specifics. Look at the pros and cons of the laptop, desktop, convertible, and see what will work best for what you are wanting.

Here are a few things to consider:

1. A laptop is nice because it is portable, but you can also use it with a nice-size screen and traditional keyboard.

2. A desktop is nice because you can get more computer for the money, and you can upgrade it more easily: bigger hard drive, better video card, better screen. etc.

3. A convertible has the advantages of a laptop, but it also nice if you want a touch screen, keyboard, and a presenting device all in one. I am sure others can list even more pros about these devices.

I'd recommend a desktop based on the time you will be spending on your computer. If you need portability though you must get a good laptop with a large screen. Power should be determined by how much video editing you will be doing.

Depending on how much video editing you do, a faster CPU can help. If it were me, an i5 would do unless you find a similar i7 build at the same price range you're looking at.

Another route is take a look at HP/Dell refurb workstation. A couple gen old(2nd gen core) Dual Xeon QC w/ HT, good video card, lot of ram(sometime ECC) and a great PSU(700w-1000w) can be have for the same price as new i7 build.

Those guy are awesome with lot of features like SAS, Raid, dual 16x pcie, great air flow...etc.

I suggest Dell T7500, they can be had for cheap if you look around.
