Help needed putting VHS to DVD

I'll be capturing VHS tapes to my HDD via a 7500 All In Wonder. What format should the footage be stored in in order for it to be compatible in set top DVD players? MPEG, AVI,....?

> ? Will Mpeg4 work also?

only on 1 $450 player so far.

www.vcdhelp.com and try search here, in Software, and in Video forums using "DVD" and "Capture" for 1 or 2 more threads on this.

You can capture to mpeg-1 and a program like Mydvd or Ulead DVD Movie Factory will convert to use with DVD. The advantages are that you can get about 3+ hrs per dvd, the big disadvantage is the quaility is lacking. You would have to try it and see if the trade off is worth it.

Capture it uncompressed (or barely compressed using HUFFYUV codec or similar) at 720x480. Then compress it to MPEG2. Kind of overkill. Consider VCD (352x240, MPEG1) or SVCD (480x480, MPEG2).
