hi
got my asus p4pe
with a 2.4b c1
and corsair xms memory pc3200c2

when i try to boot it up it
the voice tells me "system failed cpu test"
so i am leaded to belive my cpu is broken
but a thought came to me

and maybe the motherboard is broken and may be reporting to me wrong messages

so i tried taking out the cpu and boot it up
and it tells me "no cpu installed"

does this mean the motherboard is 100% working?

right now trying to find a friend that has a p4 system for me to test my cpu if it's working

any opinion on this
if the motherboard can think and see that there is no cpu installed
when i take it out
does it mean the motherboard is 100% working?

thanks
kind of a noob question
but kinda frustated for getting defective parts
thanks for any help in advance

Check your 12v rail reading in the hardware monitor. If it's below 11.7, that can trigger the message. I fixed the problem on my p4s533 by removing a jumper on the board to disable the speech reporter, and changing power supplies. I use an L&C 350 watt, available from dealsonic for only $17.95 shipped. All readings are at or above spec, and it's very quiet.

Are you sure you have the square 4 prong cpu power supply plugged in? It's between the CPU socket and the AGP slot. If you don't have one of these on your PSU, you can plug in a standard power connection to the EX-Plug located just behind the ATX power connection. You have to have one of these connections powered or the CPU won't work.

Where did you purchase the CPU from?
