Alright here's my situation.....

I've got a Plextor UltraPlex 40Max and an older Smart and Friendly burner (both SCSI). I'm looking to get one of Plextor's new burners and I see they have 12x versions in both SCSI and IDE. I really like the IDE version better and it is significantly cheaper. I just don't know if it even makes sense to have a SCSI CDROM and an IDE CDRW though. I'm open to any good suggestions. I like my UltraPlex, but I'm not against selling it and purchasing a good IDE CDROM (Teac, Kenwood?) to replace it (though I know nothing will really match Plextor's overall quality :(). Not really sure what my best option is, but with all the really bright people here I'm sure I'll find that out. Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it.

Get the SCSI drive. It costs more for a good reason. When I have chosen cheaper vs. better I always end up regretting it in the long run.
