help needed! my new 8500 is too glaring

I just got a Radeon 8500 from the gateway deal to replace my power color 7500 .
At first everything is allright. I installed the lastest official driver for 2K and 98 from ATi Web site.
I found the picture was a lot more bright than my 7500, because I did not adjust the monitor. So I turn down the contrast ,then the brightness. but those did not work. the pic is still glaring. especially the text, at the same time, the interface between the text and the background is not clear, comparing to the 7500.
any one has the same experience?
BTW , I am using Samsung 900NF

Go into the video properties and turn down the gamma.

thanks, I tried that, Now I thought it is the convergence problem.
