Hello

Thanks for clicking on my post.

I have an issue/scenario and would love to get some help from an experienced and knowledgeable person like you guys!!!. I am trying to help a relative in setting up email for his small business.

He wants to setup indivual email for his employees but does not allow internet access on thei machines. How can this be done?? in other words. right now, his company has only one email address that everyone shares, so whenever an email is received, this person prints it and sends it to the appropriate person. All the machines are networked to Windows 2003 server. They run an application hosted on the server. None of these machines have access to the internet.

He would like to setup email for everyone so that internaly they can send emails to each other (locally should be much quicker) aswell as have user@theirdomain.com for receiving outside email. But he does not want them to be able to connect to Internet/web!! so most probably using outlook or something to access email. Preferabley have some sort of web client to access mail from outseide if need be.

is there anyway Exchange could be setup?? mybe use push email???should we install it locally or on a VPS?? they have a VPS account to host their website.

How can I help them?? I hope the question is clear!!! WOuld realyl really appreciate your help.

Many Thanks

I use Zimbra Open Source on a Debian 4.0 server here at my house. Gives everyone a domained username, calendar, tasks, ect ect. Lovely FREE software. Set it up on a linux server with a domain pointed at it, and then you can easily make emails off of it. Your guys don't need internet connection. Just use your 2k3 server's DNS function to point a local domain at your server. If you want the server to be able to collect emails from outside, you'll have to give the server 3 things. 1. It's own IP, 2. A domain that externally resolves, 3. DNS system to give the server MX records available to the world. This is the setup i have in my home. This system currently feeds about 35 people in my group, works well. It does however need a connection with GOOD upload, as loading a single page could be as much as 800KB in ajax data. It can take awhile. That's why i recommend the Zimbra Desktop application, that way every computer has those AJAX pages loaded, and all the system does is download the emails from the server. Saves alot of BW. I plan, since i'm moving to a college appartment and loosing the server i use here at home (blocked ports), to install this on a VPS server. A cheap 20$ a month server is all i need. Remember, since Zimbra is an all loaded system, you HAVE to give it it's own IP. It takes all ports that other services use. SSH, POP, SPOP, 80 web server, and many more. It needs it's own IP with it's own domain, with it's own fresh installed OS. DO NOT use an already configured system, has to be fresh installed, following their guidelines to get it installed. For step by step go to HowToForge and search for Debian Zimbra to get the step by step on loading Zimbra onto Debian 4.0

Let me know if you need more help ^^
