I have a BSNL Type -2 WA3002G4 Modem which has been giving me all sorts of problems , the biggest of which has been very poor Wifi coverage. I am looking for a good alternative , which can give me the best coverage possible.

Is it better to get a modem+router combo or have a separate Modem (in bridge mode) and add a wireless Modem to all the authentication in PPPoE mode? What do you think will be a better idea?

Basically i want good coverage in both the floors of my house, the whole of which comes to about 2000 sq feet .

Could you suggest as to how i go about things and what products should i consider buying for the best coverage throughout the house . My budget can go upto 150$.

Thanks in advance .

Separate units are much better. Comcast originally gave me a SMC Wireless Gateway (combo modem/wireless router). It had a piss poor wireless signal that basically was nonexistant after 10ft. It maxed out at 25mbs. Generally, the all-in-one units suck at one (usually the Wifi) or both of the functions.

I took it back to them and went with a Arris TM722g Modem (purchased at Best Buy w/a Comcast Communitcation Center) and my old Linksys wrt54q wireless router w/Tomato firmware and now my speed is at 35mbs and the wireless signal is great. I also have voice which is why I choose this Arris model.

I am looking at an ADSL/ADSL2 modem for use in India. Will the Arris TM722g Modem work for my BSNL broadband back in India?

The Combos (Modem/Router) were invented for ISPs to be given for free.

They all "Sux", are very inflexible, and their Wireless component is especially bellow mediocre.

There is No magic Wireless that covers whatever the person environment is.

Wireless Ethernet is Not Audio, simple "Boost" (amplification) rarely works.

Best result can be achieved by using Dual Radio Wireless Router with a matching Dual Radio client card.

Examples.

Buffalo. High Power. Dual band. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162047

Asus. Dual band - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320062

Cisco Refurb. Dual band http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Rou...VVviewprod.htm

Dual band USB Wireless client - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166046

If one Router will Not cover well the whole environment (and it probably will not), buy additional Wireless Router and connect it as an Access Point to the main Router.

Secondary Router as an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

If additional wires are not an Option then you will have to build a WDS network.

No it is a cable modem. i would contact your ISP or visit their website, as they generally have approved devices.
