Hey guys, having some rather serious probs on a mates computer.

Specs:

Athlon 3800+ Venice core
DFI SLI-D mobo (not sure which BIOS, the one it came with.)
XFX 6800GS PCI-e version
Kingstion Hyper X Dual channel (2X512) PC3200
Seagate Barracuda 80 gig SATA drive
ASUS DVD drive
Logitech G15 keyboard
Razer Copperhead

After turning on for the first time, XP booted as expected, detected the mouse and keyboard, and then asked to restart.

We then installed the Razer software, then the Logitech software (no reboot after either). Then, using a USB flash drive, installed Winzip 10, and Everest at this point, while attempting to extract CPU-Z 1.32 (from a winzip file) from the flash drive, the system froze, and so we restarted.

This is where the problem kicked in. The display was ok, but "fuzzy", with horizontal grey lines over the whole screen. For the entire boot process the display is odd, and booting into normal mode, the display simply stops. Booting into safe mode, the display is still having issues, but worked. We attempted to restore to the a restore point but, the mouse is non functional, and so is the keyboard.

So, any ideas? no screenies unfortunately.

My first suggestion would have been the restore point, but you said that didn't
work. It sounds like you have a driver issue. I've used that Everest on a couple
systems and it messed up on one of them (a laptop). My guess is that program
is the culprit.

Also, have you installed the most up to date drivers for the video card?
I know they have discontinued support for Everest Home Edition, so you
can't look to update that. Try uninstalling Everest if drivers don't change a
thing and see if that helps.

Yeah, that seems like a reasonable guess (about Everest being the prob), coz it was pretty well sweet up till then.

Oh well, gonna try talking to the guys that it was bought from, its brand spanking new (arrived today) so yeah. Not gonna try anything till they have had a look. otherwise, i think it will be easiest to start from scratch, seeing as how there is no data on there to lose.
