Just upgraded from a radeon 7000. Plugged 9700 in, booted up and installed latest cat drivers. Rebooted and then this!

Specs:

Biostar M7MKE (supports 4x agp)
and not that it will help much but:
Athlon 800 cpu
640mb PC133

Booting in safe mode now...any ideas here?

I wonder if it's a power issue. I doubt it but...I have a 235W ps in this system.

I think a higher-capacity power supply might be a good thing to try next. They're not that expensive in the scheme of things... just make sure to get a quality-brand one, not a cheapie. Sparkle Power, Antec, Enermax or Enlight are some brands worth looking at, and my way of thinking is "better too much than not enough" so I'd get at least a 330-350W unit.

Wow, heh, so many bottlenecks, CPU, RAM, and chipset😛! You planning on upgrading those later on do you? Do you have the extra power connector connected? And what kinda PSU you using?

it's an Enlight ps, so not no name exactly.

Yeah, bottlenecks 😛 I do plan on upgrading later. I am building a new system, but want to get this old one workng with the 9700 so I can play with it without having to wait until the new system is ready!

I've been messing with drivers here. It boots partially now. All I see is an hourglass and the outline of a window.

Very frustrating.

And yes, extra connector is attached. *sigh*

Now it's booting into windows properly, I hear the windows tune then it apparently locks up. Intermittent harddrive light flashes and the mouse is in "hourglass" mode...

And what is this 9700 Secondary it seems to want to install?? It indicated PCI... jeeez

my first radeon 9700 pro did the same thing

is your's a rev 1.1 board?

i took mine back and swapped it for another one.

it would black screen and even give the no signal error on the monitor as i could hear the windows load.

take it back and get another or rma it.
