I bought the Abit BE6-II motherboard. Installed Win ME and when I installed the ATA 66 driver, it reported a code 1 error in the device manager properties for it. After a while my registeries got corrupted and I had to re-format my system. I reinstalled it with Win98SE, but the same problem still persists! Funny thing is, my soundcard (SB Live! Value), also got no sound coming out. I have checked and use the latest driver already. Anyone got any idea how to solve this problem? By the way, the ATA controller is Highpoint-Tech HPT370.

I've been having my own problems w/ this board...one thing I did notice is that the disk that comes w/ the board is for the BX-6...why this is, I don't know...since the BX-6 does not support ATA 66...but the disk has ATA 66 drivers nonetheless. Have you tried looking at ABIT's site to see if they address this? My problem is that I can't get the damn board overclock at any speed. It will POST, but then it black screens right before it goes into windows. Even 1mhz more on the FSB will cause it to do this. Weird...this is the 1st time I've had ANY trouble with an ABIT board and overclocking. I finally went back to a BH-6, which is running my coppermine 600 very stably at 744, and just gave up the ATA 66 support
(I don't know how much differnce it makes...the fact that its a 7200rpm drive probably counts for more in the performance arena).

have you upgrade to the most recent BIOS? also, if that's the case, try to take out the sound blaster live, d/l the most updated ata66 driver from ABIT, install it and see if it is better.

if it is, put the sb live in another slot other than the one you used, and see if there is any conflict.
