Help.... Need to get Wisdom Teeth Extracted

So I'm a 20 yr old masters student right now...

I need to have my wisdom teeth extracted. I took x-rays over the summer and I can already feel the pain from one of the teeth starting to come out. My dentist told me that I'm gonna have to go to the oral surgeon to get them extracted.

I don't have dental insurance. I have limited health insurance (my mom works as a contractor).

What options do I have at this point? Am I just going to have to front the costs of the surgery?

Do dental colleges offer discounted work for being worked on by students? Or have you considered getting some manner of dental coverage?

You should be able to find some local dentistry schools that will let their students practice on you for a nominal fee.

There are dental plans you can sign up for. Don't ask me how good they are though.

Good luck with your teeth, tooth pain is the worst.

what is it today with no insurance and dental problems?

Wisdom teeth removal is pretty pricy, much more than the filling that Tomato was asking about in the other thread.

Do you need all 4 removed or just some of them?

I would just front the money but the other option is to find a dentistry school as some of these have mentioned.

Also, you can ask your dentist. He probably knows of some methods.

what he said

be prepared for lots of pain!

😀😀

You can try UMDNJ but the dental schools usually charge like 1/2 what the average dentist would charge.

Yea, but how long does it usually take to be enrolled in the plan?

I'm currenty suffering from the removal of one. It took 2 hours to get it out, and now it hurts like sh*t. I had it pulled thursday, but it first began hurting really much monday.......maybe because I ran out of the "horse" tranquilizers and went to standard.

Even at the crappy callcenters in town, it's only a 90-day waiting period.

I thought i heard that the majority of the cost is if they put you under. As long as you aren't knocked out, you should be able to save some cash.

I couldn't handle that...but maybe you can.

I had mine done at an oral surgeon...all 4 impacted along with stiches, put me completely under for about 3 hours, and then in addition was on percocet for 1 week + vicodin for 2nd week. Total cost when all said and done was around $5000. Paid it off through plan offered by the surgeon and help from the parents.

ugh i'm puttin off schedulling my wisdom teeth getting pulled ( extraction ) ... thx for the thread now i'm gonna do it

My girlfriends mom had a couple of teeth pulled for 40$/tooth at some dentistry school around here.
