HELP!! Need to defunctify a comforter set!!!

OK, I got a Westpoint Stevens comforter set from Amazon, but the thing wreaks to high heaven. It's this sort of closed in smell to it (it was packaged in one of those clear zipper bags). But the smell is so overbearing and it says dry clean only (I don't even want to know how much they would charge to dry clean a queen comforter).

Anyway, I emptied out a whole bottle of Febreeze on it and the smell still lives!!! What else can I throw on there to starve off the smell other than setting it on fire

True, but I was wondering if there were any remedies that I could try myself before I took that step. It's not actually dirty, it just has that closed in smell

PSA: Febreeze is not the answer to funky smells. It sucks.

Dryel might be worth a shot.

EDIT: Although I don't think a comforter will fit in the bag you're supposed to use...I think you're going to have to suck it up and get it drycleaned.

I would still get it cleaned before using it. Mine smelled pretty bad when I took it out of the bag too, but it's machine washable so I just took it to the laundromat. If you really don't want to clean it, I would just let it air for a while.

One of my comforters and duvet cover says dry clean only and I've washed them many times......YMMV

Yeah, that's the thing. The comforter was like $20. I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money to get it dry cleaned. Meh, I guess I'll throw it outside and let the pollen have at it

I'll have to find a laundromat around here with a washer large enough to fit it...

Anyway, I won't have time to do it until next weekend. Taking my GF to the mountains as graudation present tomorrow and won't be back til next week.
