I really have no idea what are some good boards out there. Is Asus still good? How about MSI or Gigabite? thanks

Is it a 5xx series with 1mb L2 cache, or a 6xx series with 2mb L2 cache and EM64T? The Abit AS8 is a good board if it's the 5xx series and you don't want to go PCIe. Abit, Asus, and Gigabyte are all pretty good. I don't like MSI personaly, but they aren't that bad I guess. Are you planning on doing any overclocking? AGP or PCIe, DDR or DDR2? You didn't really give enough info..

Just an FYI: Your mobo really doesn't make too much of a difference...no such thing as a "gaming mobo." About music processing: just get a sound card.

I've been out of the loop on Intel boards (ironic huh?), but IIRC the ASUS P5WD2 Premium got an awesome review, and is one of the best boards for Socket T. I would think that a lower end model of that board would fare decently as well.

Here is the chip info:
3.6ghz Socket T (775)
800mhz FSB
Hyperthreading
Stepping E, 1MB cache

I do not plan on overclocking, not sure on AGP or PCIe but it sounds like AGP? Probably will go with DDR.

This is the board I got...

Asrock

Supports DDR1 and DDR2 (DDR2 seem to work best) and also AGP plus PCIe (but again PCIe seems to work best) with that said I gogt the board as I had DDR1 and a AGP card left over and this board supports that and DDR2 and PCIe with also support for Dual core chips.

I updated my Bios and has been working well ever since.

Well if you plan to stick with AGP and want to use DDR, then I can definatly recomend the Abit AS8, the Asus P5P800 is also good. If you don't have already have a video card and ram however, it would make more sense to go with a PCIe video card and DDR2 memory, since both DDR and AGP are starting to be phased out. A 945 or 955 chipset board would allow you to upgrade to a dual core later if you wanted, unfortunatly it won't support future 65nm chips, since Intel will require the 975 chipset for those, and I don't think it's available yet.
