2. the who: My Generation "hope I die before I get old"

Need some more! Putting together a CD for a guy turning 40.

thx.

Johnny Cash - Hurt

Not really a song about getting old, but a song about being old. You will cry if you listen to this / watch the video. Yes I know it is NIN orignally.

That song by The Who is called "My Generation" but you've got the gist of the idea. ;)

How about "Time" by Pink Floyd?

Ticking away, the hours that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Digging around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
For you are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today

Then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

I'm proud to say I've had that memorized since the late 1980's at least.

me\<--old Floyd head. :)

Does your 40 to be friend like country? If so, there's a group called 'Old Dogs' that's whole song base revolves around getting old. Plus, some of their lyrics were written by Shel Silverstein before he died so you have to figure they're pretty funny.

Here's a small verse from one of the songs called 'Time'.

The young folks, they're growin' exceptionally tall.
And the newspaper print, it's becoming quite small.
And folks speak so soft, you can hardly hear at all.

Good luck with your search. :)

I really think he was talking about the summer of (19)69. :p
(Bryan would have been about twelve in 1969. ;)

(it was popular back then to play with the song titles too, like 'Jack'n Diane' by John C-M)

Heck, I need songs about still feeling young . . . :p

:D

Rush: "I think I'm going bald" off Caress of Steel, yes, quite possibly the worst rush song ever, but at least there is a rush song for every meaningful abstract topic. Also "Losing It" off Signals might qualify, also not a very good song musically.
