Hey guys so far having a successful O/C at 4.6GHZ and now priming it for 24hrs.

The problem is my 6GB (3 x 2 GB Gskill PC3 12800 DDR3-1600 ) sticks DEFINITELY do not cut it.

Any ideas what would be good my on my Gigabyte x58A-ud5 rev2 motherboard with the Xeon X5660?

1. buy 3 more 2GB dimms or go for a new setup like 6x4Gb or 3 x 8GB. What ya think?

if you want to overclock it, i would say go with 3x8gb sticks as that will lessen the stress on the memory controller and will help allow the high overclock as I have read less memory devices is generally better for overclocks

if you are going to run stock I would say to the 6x4gb as it might be the cheaper solution

I am not sure Gigabyte works well with 3 x 8GB ... doh!

Gigabyte says:
Code:
6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system memory(Note 1)
Dual/3 channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules
Support for non-ECC memory modules
Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules

Does this mean I cant get 3x 8 gb? Right now my timings are 7-8-7-22

I have a asrock extreme x58 with 3x2GB G.Skill Pi 7-7-7 ddr3 1600 I reset the 3x2GB G.Skill to 9-9-9 and then added 3x4GB G.Skill 1600 9-9-9 for a total 18GB but widows premium has a 16GB limit.

When the 8GB sticks first came around someone who is regular here had 6x8GB or 48GB of 1600 ram at 10666 or 1333 spd running on a x58.

I thought this board did max 24gb I think its best to keep everything the same not to mix and match going to but 3x2 making it 12gb

At the time the Egg wanted a extra $60.00 for half of the amount of the 3x2 Pi so I ended up with double the memory and saved sixty bucks.
It seems a waste limit the board with 2GB sticks when ram drives are useful
