Help! Need opinion on online poker.

Hi everyone I need a little help on a project. As you porbably know, online poker has exploded in the last two years but there is virtually no regulation of the industry.

I?m building a database of online poker consumer reviews/complaints here. This database is modeled on cnet, epinions (and anandtech of course) and it will present product reviews from the user?s perspective.

I hope these consumer reviews will help keep the industry honest and keep the public aware of what rooms to avoid.

Feel free to give a basic ?thumbs up? or ?thumbs down? review of each poker room. But if you can expand on why you like or dislike a certain poker room, that would be great too. Some things to discuss in your review can be (1) Is the room safe and fair, (2) Did you get your money back, (3) Do you like the software, etc.

Thanks!

Annie

P.S. To get a sense of how wild online poker is, check out MSNBC?s article about robots playing poker and New York Time?s article about Princeton students winning $120,000.

I would check out some poker forums, not epinions or tech forums. For example many people here or on epinions I suspect will say things like PartyPoker is rigged. They say stuff like that they purposefully PartyPoker pairs big hands against each other to generate rake. They are completely and totally WRONG. PartyPoker is a multi-billion dollar company who caters to 60k players at any one time. On a 0.5/1 player (lowest limit) they probably make at least $30/hr. Now they have a TON of 0.5/1 tables and that is just their lowest limit. As you can tell they are making ridiculous amounts of money here. Why would they rig the system to make more money when they are already making a huge amount and would be jeopardizing their credibility and customer base to just make a little bit more? Furthermore the people who say PartyPoker is rigged have very little experience in poker and have no idea just how swingy the game can be. They are not surprised when a .250 hitting average baseball players gets a hit, but are astounded when their pockets aces lose (which in most cases has a 70-80% chance to win).

Here's my personal review on a few sites that I've played at:

Party Poker (and skins--such as eurobet, multipoker, pokernow, empire): best cash games on the net for low-mid limit games. Largest player base by far and thus some of the softest games. Also it is possible to get rakeback at a few party poker skins. Rakeback is a huge plus as if you play break even poker you will make good money. If you play winning poker you will make a lot more money, all pretty much for free. Very reliable site in all regards.

Poker Stars: great interface, but the deal can be a little slow at times. Great great support and ability to have avatars are major plus's. Cash games selection is not nearly as huge as party poker but they have a decent amount of games running at all times. Good tournament systems as well with the ability to make deals at the final table. Also have a nice FPP system (player points for playing more). Very reliable site in all regards.

Ultimate Bet: probably the fastest site on the net in terms of deal. They have the miniview system which I love. Also have rakeback. Don't really know how their cash games or tournaments are, but they offer a lot of games. I do know that they have some very good high limit games (such as 300/600 and 50/100 NL). Another very reliable site in all regards.

Prima Poker Skins (a lot): Don't have much experience with them, but I can tell you what I've heard. Apparently have extremely fishy games and have some high limit NL games (100/200NL) that run quite frequently. Sometimes cashouts can be troublesome as sometimes they ask for fax's of identification, but after that they do give out cash. I think it is possible to get rakeback as well.

Do you even get the reference, or do you just find yourself amusing?

Not so much amusing as it beats reading your drivel.

I found his post a lot funnier than yours, probably because I've seen the video he's quoting from.
