Help...Need online retailer for a Trek Bicycle

Sorry if this post does'nt belong here... I will ask for it to be removed if it upsets anyone LMK.

I live in a small town with only one Trek dealer. I asked for him to inflate the tires before I test rode the bike and he said "NO" I'm too busy. Well the ride went great (except for the flat) and I started to pull out my check book for a the 2002 Trek 7500 and thought heck no this guy really does'nt want my money if he can't even be bothered to inflate the tires fully before allowing a customer to test ride. So I told him "it was too small" which was sorta true since it was an 18" and I wanted a 20". Well should I go back and order one from him or can I buy online somewhere?

If you buy it online you'll most likely have to put it together yourself. Do you have bike building skills?

I always buy bikes from local guys because i have someone to complain to 🙂 Also, they know how to do tune-ups

Ya I really wanted to buy this bike right then but I never liked his shop or him and my feelings are not unique. Although, he does have the bike I want..

Usually I deal with the local Cannondale, Gaint, schwinn, specialized guy who has serviced my bikes for years and sold me several. But he can't get Trek.

yea, I'm pretty sure that unless your a dealer, you have to buy your bikes from the dealer... something about if you put it together and say your downhill biking and the fork comes off, then you can sue trek directly... atleast thats the way I remember it. have you checked out a cannondale? they are worth a few bucks more.

well, it does suck that this guy sucks, but I'd say just pony up the cash and take off. have your local cannondale guy service it, and you'll never have to see the trek guy again. makes sense, no?

Yes. I'm glad I did'nt piss him off and left "thinking about it". I guess if I can't find one online I will pony up and order the 20".

Thanks everyone

BTW stev0, this bike is a real unique. It's a hybrid first which is hard to find anymore and it's only 25lbs. and very strong like a Cannondale/ Plus it fits just right for around town riding.

btw...what model trek are you looking at?

i'm in the market for a new mountain bike...but not sure what's out there

also, anyone have any good cannondale models to suggest?

It's the 7500 which is a hybrid, not a moutain bike and not a road bike somewhere between. The basic differences are a more upright rider stance, thinnner and larger diameter tires for speed. But same gearing as a moutain bike. Much more comfortable but not as strong. For riders 70% town 30% light trails.

As for cannondale mountain bikes I recommend the superV900 price/performance wise. While mountain bikes looks sexier most people don't need them sorta like SUV's. So think about a hybrid first.

that's EXACTLY my dilemna! the truth is that i'd easily be doing 90% street riding, but i have yet to see a hybrid i like.

i totally want to get a tricked out mountain bike to look cool, but i worry that it will perform pretty crappy on roads.

what's a boy to do???

edit: man! that 7500 sure is nice...what does it go for?

Hey sohcrates, Did you see the Slate pearl color? It would match your Audi nicely Nice car BTW.

As far as what to do. I recommend every one of my friends to ride a hybrid first and most of the time they end up with one becuase they are more comfortable and have the ability to handle most off road situations unless you just get nuts doing table tops etc..

I SAW that color! mmmm.....heheheh

a roof bike rack for my ride is like 250 bucks, which stinks....but my dad's bimmer has a "universal" trunk-mount rack that i might be able to jury-rig onto my car, so i hope that works.

i come from a freestyle bmx past....so i DO love to to trick off stuff. perhaps i SHOULD stick with a mountain bike....

i think i'm gonna go to some stores tomorrow and test drive a few different models 🙂

thanks for the input!

Heh, getting into the thread a little late but as it's been said, getting a Trek bike online usually means you're giving up a lot in return. I was looking around online for a Trek a few years ago (online was always cheaper, so says the shopper's philosophy) but any dealer who would send you the bike was kind of shady once you call them up. Basically, I was either told cash only or no registration papers would be included. One place even said they wouldn't give me a receipt!

This is one of those things where buying locally is hands-down a better option. 🙁
