The more I read about this black out, the less I understand. I've always taken electricity for granted. Does anybody have a good link to an easy to understand explanation of how the electricity gets from the power station to my home?
I know it's 3 phase AC and all that, but the details are mixing me up. If my house is part of a huge circuit, doesn't that mean that the current coming into my house also has to return to the power station? Are there 2 separate wires coming and going connected to the negative and positive charges? I tried "How Stuff Works" but it doesn't really make it very clear. I get lost between basic voltage X current = power and how a system gets overloaded. What makes a grid overloaded and crash?
