I am in desperate need of new monitor for my i5, gtx 570 msi twin frozer III build.

If im only going to run a single overclocked 570 is it worth it to buy a 120hz quick response monitor?? Can I even expect to achieve more than 60 fps in games like battlefield 3?

If so which monitor would you choose under 400 dollars....If not, which monitor would you choose?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!:D

its up to you

you don't have to be a fool and blindly crank the graphics settings all the way up. A major advantage to PC gaming is that the gamers are given far more control over their graphical experience. If we want more details we can crank them up. If we want faster frame rates we typically have significant control over those details to tweak things the way we want in order to get a proper balance of what we desire from the game

I play BC2 and love to give myself competitive advantages by milking the most out of my hardware. I certainly could crank details way up with my heavily overclocked 2600K CPU and GTX580 GPU, but I actually turn some graphics settings down or even off in order to maintain a high average frame rate (100+) for my 120Hz monitor, and even get rid of some annoying graphical effects as a bonus. And best of all the overall visual experience really isn't that much worse, and pretty much forgotten entirely in the heat of action.

I fully plan to do the same for BF3.

Your GTX570 should have plenty of muscle to push even BF3 at higher than 60 framerates with tweaked settings, however keep in mind that a fast CPU can be just as important for such matters, particularly in full servers with lots of vehicles and frenzied action. You state that you just have an i5 but do not specify which model, although any desktop i5 should have enough power to properly compliment a GTX570, and one overclocked beyond 4GHz would be ideal.

that being said I'd recommend the BenQ XL2410T as the best quick response 2D 120Hz LCD : http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2410T-2.../dp/B004AKFRZY

its the i5 2500k, i haven't purchased any of it quite yet but im ready to pull the trigger on my new egg wish list any day now. Good point about lowering specific settings and thank you for the monitor recommendation.

Any one else have additional monitor recommendations at both 120 and 60 hz?

For that price range your options are pretty straight forward: Size, speed (3D), or picture quality.

I've got a 27" 1ms Samsung monitor that rocks. Ghosting is so slight its almost imperceptible and the size just can't be beat.

You can also get a 120hz monitor that is even faster and 3D capable, but it will be 24" at most.

Or, you can get a 24" IPS monitor that has more ghosting, but the best possible picture quality (truly black blacks and vibrant colors).

Which you prefer just depends on the individual and the games they play. For fast paced racing, flying or fps games speed is more important then picture quality. Your best bet if money is important is to wait for the black Friday sale the day after Thanksgiving. You can save as much as fifty bucks that way.

I think i may have found my monitor

Samsung S23A950

its more than I wanted to spend but its design alone beckons to me.
Highlights:

23" 1920x1080 Resolution
2ms response time (TN)
True 120Hz via Display-port or DVI-D
Semi-gloss or "Ultra-Clear" panel
LED back lit (edge lit)
Motion sense standby mode

What do you guys think??

either this or the alienware 120hz

There is one 27" 120hz display: the Acer hn274h. It's ~650-700 though... I'm considering it.

Got it today. It's awesome. 120hz really makes things smooth. I don't care about 3d, so I wish I could have bought it w/o the glasses. Really just wanted the fastest response.

For perspective: I have used a plasma as a monitor for this computer as well, and this monitor definitely feels smoother (120hz!) and the pixel ghosting etc is comprable to my eye.

The price is high, not sure it's justifiable, but now that I have it, I'm not sure I could go back to 60hz...
