Help: Need a new DVD player.

So I have had my DVD player for about 4 years now. It is getting real unforgiving when it comes to disk defects and often skips even with new movies. I know I could probably take it apart and clean the lense and all that but I figure it is time for a new one. Also it is probably time to upgrade my CD changer. So I am thinking about getting a 5-disk DVD/CD changer. BestBuy has a few selections in the $150 range, anyone else have any suggestions?

I'm in pretty much the same spot; my old DVD player also lapses into a short coma whenever it encounters a small disk defect.

I saw that Consumer Reports rated the Panasonics highly, specifically this model. But I decided to spring for this Panasonic home entertainment system which includes a 5-disk DVD player for about $100 more.

Why does anybody need a 5 disc changer? I really don't want to crap, so only respond to this if you're bored, but it seems to me that when i want to watch a movie I just drop it in, and bob's your uncle. Anyway, for what it's worth, $60 will buy the Philips dvp642 model from amazon. I bought it earlier this month and it's damn sweet for the price - especially because it plays DivX. in fact that's what makes it such a hot item to me. goodluck!

The only real reason for 5-disk in my case is for CD capeability for the GF. She can't seem to figure out how to use the TiVo to play music so she still uses the CD player. Otherwise, yes Single disk is probably the way to go. Another good thing is that this opens up a slot on my reciever since I'll be using the DVD and CD in a single input.
