My Sony Vaio Z got smashed. It had a 128GB SSD and core i-7. I'm currently working on an old backup lappy with a damaged video card, 1.8" slow as hell HDD, super slow U7600 Core 2 Duo ULV, and a failing cooling system.

I need a laptop within the next hour or two from Fry's electronics or Microcenter brick and mortar because I can't make it with my backup.

I need recommendations but I've been out of the loop on low end lappy hardware.

Budget of $350, the cheaper the better.

Need the fastest processor this amount of money can buy. At least 100GB. Screen size, video card, weight, brand, battery life, and all that stuff doesn't matter. This will solely be a barebones backup laptop.

With $350 budget, it isn't "the best" but "the only." Typically what is available for that price is a single core Celeron or Sempron. You won't have much choice, if any.

All I'm seeing are single core processors at that price point, which will tend to suck performance wise.

For $350, you're probably best off going into the store and picking the one that looks the nicest, honestly. They'll be a step above a netbook in terms of performance, but nothing compared to an i7 and SSD.

Stay away from Emachines.
