I wanna replace my aging 350 watter that came with my case with something more decent. I'm not looking to get a psu that's future proofed, just something that's rock steady for what I got.
Athlon XP mobile 2400running at 3200 settings, a vanilla 6800, 1gb of ram, 2 hdd, and one optical drive.

My budget is roughly 50+shipping. So far, I'm looking at

They vary from 400-500 watts, I'm mostly interested in which one would be most stable or use better capcitors.

Thanks for any help :)

L337Llama, what's wrong with your current psu other than being old? A quality 300w psu will run your rig just fine. Save your money until you can afford a nice 80+ unit with a 3-5 year warranty.

I wanna replace it because the rails have been getting worse and worse, especially the 12v rail. When I upgrade in the future, I plan on making a new system and using this one for less intensive tasks, hence why I don't care very much about it having the absolute greatest in PSU stuff, just stability and enough power for what I got.

either of the fortrons you linked to would work fine. I would probably go with the FSP400 bluestorm.

true.dat homes.

balane do you have that psu? I'll bet you don't. Can you tell me what is so good about it?
OP: fortrons with the "ax" notation are of lesser quality than those with the "fsp" notation. This is because they are manufactured in a facility (fortron has like 4) that uses lower quality parts (sinks, caps, etc.) the enhance is more efficiant, quieter and probably more stable than the fsp400-thn, but if you want to buy from newegg, you could get the forton. I got the enhance from ewiz, no problems, great psu.

Per chance, does anybody know what brand capacitors the FSP blue storm psu uses, and how they compare to the ones in the Enhance?

Please define what a quality 300watt PSU is?
Most 300 watt PSU`s are what you would get in a casa that comes with a PSU.....as in OKIA brand or TurboPower brand and the list goes on. None of which are quality!

Then again just because something is rated 80+ is not an enforsement of the quality of the parts used to manufacture the PSU.....
There are alot of good 80+ PSU`s on the market that are not rated by the 80+ website.
It`s nice that somethin g is 80+ in efficiency and also rated by the 80+ websitre people.

There are those who will tell you that the difference between 80+ and 75+ or even 72+ does not have any bearing on quality and or workmanship.

Good luck in your pursuit of a new PSU.......
You could run that rigg with a nice 400 or even 450 watt PSU which probably would even give you some headroom!! :D

Then again there are those who will post just to argue the 80+ point....heheeeee

Anand`s site Rox`s!!!:D
