Help Narrow My Monitor Choices Please!

I went out to the store today and looked at a few displays. I was originally set on going with a Samsung 955DF and then buyers remorse kicked in big-time! I still have the Samsung on order and luckily Dell back ordered it to give me a little more time to think it over.

Anyway.. Here's the short list that I came up with. If anyone can give me any advice or rank these monitors, it would be most appreciated!

For Trinitron AG/Diamondtron:
Sony G400/G420
Viewsonic P95F
NEC/Mitsubishi FP955
Samsung 900NF

Shadow Mask:

Hitachi 772
Cornerstone P1460

I'll tell you, I was out looking and from what I saw, I didn't notice that the pictures on the AG's were any brighter or more vivid than my original choice (Samsung 955DF). All of them looked pretty close to me. Maybe the difference is actually at higher resolutions and when you get certain colors on the screen.

One thing that bugged me more than I thought it would was the AG lines. I was watching a DVD at a store and every time the scene went to a daylight, I could see the top AG line. It looked like a few scans I used to get with an old Logitech scanner that I had. Sometimes I would get lines across photos that I scanned and it used to piss me off! Anyway.. For those of you that have AG or Diamondtron tubes, do you ever get used to the AG lines?

I'm sort of leaning towards the Shadow Mask now. Can I go wrong with something high quality like the Hitachi 772 (what's the difference between the 771 and 772?) or Cornerstone P1460? They say that the colors are pretty vivid and text is good. It also supports higher resolutions unlike the Samsung 955DF.

How would you compare a Hitachi 772 to something like a Sony G420? If they're close, I might opt for the Hitachi because of the (lack of) AG lines.

BTW.. What sort of screen does the Samsung 955DF have? Shadow Mask? I don't see any lines.

i just bought a samsung 753df (same style tube as the 955df) and it is crisp as hell. perfectly flat monitor without the annoying ag lines on the sony tube monitors. i say go with it.

I can't compare them because I've only owned one of your choices. But I will say that the Samsung 900NF has a beautiful, crisp picture with great color. Unless the faint AG lines really bother you, I doubt you'll find better in its price range.

Unless you do alot of work on a white backround the AG lines won't bug you. I was the same way along time ago, but I never even notice them anymore. In my very humble opinion nothing beats a Trinitron.......

Ok.. I've got it narrowed to 2 monitors now I think.

It's either the Hitachi CM722 or the Sony G420s. Basically, it's turning into a AG vs. SM thread.

Sal BTW.. What is everyone doing as far as a background for the Anandtech forum if you are a Trinitron owner? I'm using the default screen and I'm almost positve that I'd be able to see the lines if this were a AG.

Go with the Sony I own 3 of them. I too use the default screen, I can see the lines if I look for them.
