Help - my Windows Media Player is messed up

My Windows Media Player is messed up.
It does not play video, only sound......instead shows window through to my desktop where the video should be.

I have downloaded it from MS and tried to reinstall, but it wont let me - it says I have up to date version.
I cannot find a way to remove the corrupt one.

Any ideas?

did you try playing several different types of video like divx or mpeg ?

what ??? you should still be able to download and reinstall on top of it. Are you sure it's not a codec issue ?
