I'd say line his cage with Arm and Hammer baking soda clumping cat litter. That does a very good job of minimizing any smell from waste (much better than normal kitty litter, and probably a billion times better than that bedding). And when he burrows in it, it might actually help reduce his own scent.

<< heh, i thought you were talking about computer mice... like you got a mac mouse or something 😛 >>

That's what I was thinking too...anyhow, the only advice I could give you is to check if it's a male. My girlfriend had a male and female hamster...and good damn, if that male didn't stink

thanks again for all the advice.. it looks like Im going to have to convince that male mice are a no no

I also found that excerpt helpful, but also the part about it not being fair to neuter the male mouse just because the owner doesnt like the smell..

lol

yeah right, like I care about the 'rights' of a mouse......

She brought it home w/o even discussing it w/you beforehand?
Sounds like you guys need to work on communicating and mutual respect.
Now's a good time to start

Not really looking for marital advice....
Actually she did ask me first, but neither of us had any idea how much it would stink.

Be a man and deal withit.

not really looking for advice on my manhood either.....

Just looking for ways to make a mouse stink less... why is it so easy for people to run off on tangents about the most retarded crap?

Mix rice in with it's food. Once they are digested, and it drinks water, they'll expand and rupture it's stomach from inside.

heh, if you think thats bad.... My sister raises and BREEDs mice for money. She has at least 20-30 mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, hampsters, etc etc in her room. Every time she opens the door I gag. Its awful.

and how do you know this?
Interesting.....

Wageslave, I would poison the mouse or kill it.
Or do the maintaince bogus letter idea.

Throw it outside. tell her it escaped, and you now have a live mouse loose in your house. Tell her "that's another reason not to keep rodents as pets".

Hell, just get rid of it.

OMG, no way!!! that is better than cooking the sucker 😀

Grind up chlorophyll pills and mix with the food. Chlorophyll pills are sold as a method of reducing overall body odor. I saw a CNN ?news? story about a brand called body mint. It seemed like it had some potential.

If that doesn?t work, and you can?t get rid of it, get his little nuts chopped.

Oh, yuck! I hope she has some sort of an exhaust fan in there.

Tell your wife to think big, get a rat! I've had rats before and they don't smell nearly as bad as a mouse. Easier to play with too. Hmm, aside from cleaning the cage, getting a cat or snake, can always add something to the water. 😱

:Q So to tell me you're NOT supposed to feed them rice? I used to feed my hamster rice ALL THE TIME since i thought it was cute when it stored them in its cheek pockets!! I noticed that it would p00p more often, but it never died because of it or anything.... Try breaking off little bits of Alka Seltzer (sp?) into its food, that should work better.

Gross, imagine the cleaning it would take after the explosion!
😀

From Azraele's link:

<<
Male mice smell a lot because of their natural scent - they produce a special scent-marking urine with a distinctive musk-like smell. People react differently to this smell - some hate it, whilst others grow to like it.
>>

I'm having some trouble understanding that one!

"Oh, Marge, come and look at my new pet mouse!"
"Ewwww, Betty, it's a MOUSE! Ewwww! But...doesn't he have the nicest-smelling urine!"

To the original post, I think your wife should be sympathetic to how much you dislike the stench, and agree to part ways with the mouse. If the thing stinks so bad in one hour, it's hard to imagine a product that will keep it under control for a very long time.

Well it may not work as well with mice since they probably would chew the rice before swallowing. It works very well with birds though, since they just scarf it down. (I've never actually done this myself but...)

It's why a lot of people won't throw rice at weddings anymore...the birds will come down and eat the rice, drink water and then poof. The rice expands. Like someone else said, alka seltzer and birds/animals don't mix well either. ESPECIALLY seagulls. Heck they will eat big chunks of it at a time.

Ok....something isn't right here...there are people like me who are going crazy trying to get rid of mice they DON'T want in their homes...and there are people who buy them for pets and intentionally bring them into their house. zOikes!
