First off, Newegg Rocks! I ordered the system yesterday at lunch and they tried delivering it this afternoon, but alas, I missed them. Oh, and did I mention I used the FedEx Saver shipping. Being w/in 50 miles of them has it's benefits I guess.

Anyways, I'll certainly try to put it together tomorrow. However, while I'm still here at work, I'd like to print off any reference manuals, online help topics which go over doing it. Could anybody provide me a link? I'll probably be here until 6:00pm PST and would like to print the directions off here at work.

Also, should I be worried about static? What should I do to protect against it while building?

Thanks!

BTW, the system is:
AMD 1600XP Retail
EPOX 8HKA+ MB
512MB Crucial DDR
40GB IBM HD
AOPEN CDRW2440
Pioneer 106S DVD
Santa Cruz Sound Card
Logitech Z-560 Speakers
VisionTek 6564 GF3 Ti 200
Enlight#7237AZ w/ 340W PS
Enermax FAN 12CMx25
Thermal paste.

The Epox mobo manual will be the only real critical manual needed to get the system together. The rest of the stuff will just pop right in with little or no configuration.

To make sure there is no static damage, touch an unpainted chunk of metal in you case. That should discharge any static.

One note though, I see you got a 120mm fan. the Enlight 7237 will not take a 120mm fan with out modification that requires cutting the case.

EDIT: a quick rundown of what I usually do with Enlight 7237s.

Inspect all parts for damage
Place mobo on static foam or static bag.
Insert CPU
Install heatsink (make sure to remove any plastic protecting the thermal pad)
Insert memory
Open case
Install rails on 5.25 devices
Install HDD in enlight HDD cage
Install Floppy
Install storage devices
Install rear case fan
Install/remove mobo standoffs as needed
Check rear ATX plate for proper ports (the USB usually needs a few of the metal tab bent back to prevent getting caught in the ports)
Install cards (video, audio, communications)
Install drive cables and bundle to prevent airflow obstructions
Plug in power plugs
Plug in ATX power cable

DOH!!!!

I'm a little scared about cutting into the case? How big of a cut are we talking about? Should I wait and buy a different fan instead?

I've got a Dremel that I would use if I should go ahead and cut.

Advice, please.

Thanks!!

Edited the above post for more info.

The best thing to do is not try a mod. There is actually extensive cutting of the front and can take a while with a Dremel. The best thing to do is get a good quality 80mm ball bearing case fan on the way home from work. One with a 3 pin power plug would be better since you can plug it into one of the fan headers that also offer RPM monitoring. Also looks neater.

You have a nice system. Just take your time and everything will go smoothly. If you are unsure about anything, just drop in here and post a message. if possible have all the latest drivers predownloaded (VIA 4in1, nVidia detonators, etc.). to make things easier when doing the initial software install.

Another area that causes confusion is the application of thermal paste. If you have a thermal pad on the heatsink, do NOT apply any paste. This will actually insulate the heat. Also, you should not touch the thermal pad or core of the CPU. The oils on your fingers also reduce cooling efficiency.

Good luck and enjoy. :)

Make sure you set the jumper on the Epox board to 133FSB for your CPU,I was so busy checking cables I almost forgot that anyway I had no

problems with static I did mine in the kitchen and kept touching my metal stainless steel
sink, well it it booted up first time so there was no problems :).

Will do - I think I'll try to hit Fry's - wish me luck on a Friday night. Any recommendations on which Fan to AVOID since I don't know what Fry's stocks. That being said I'm calling right now. Will update thread with their fans and hope for advice.

Thanks!

Whoa. Never heard of Sparco but $14 - $19 is way inflated. A good Sunon at NewEgg goes for $5 or about $8 tops at most retail locations. Then again, ordering one plus shipping will drive up the cost. Perhaps you should visit Fry's since I have not heard too many good things about the technical knowledge of the people that work there.

You know when you just gotta have it now. I'll but it, and hopefully it will suffice. If not, I'll buy another one. Thanks again for your help.

Rats - I picked it up and all it was was the MB, HD and Case. Of all the days to do it to me, Friday! Oh the humanity. Now I need to stare at the parts the whole weekend? :(

I'll be back asking for more help on Monday or Tuesday!

I recommend VERY highly that your actually READ your motherboard manual as a first time DIY'er, it will alleviate alot of problems down the road for you. Having someone tell you what to do and knowing what to do are two different things and I think the best learning experience is to read up on the mobo manual and learn what it can do.

Keep the 120mm and mod it to the side panal

less hassel than cutting up case and can provide better cooling directly over CPU or GFX card what ever you prefer

Molex, could you expand on that please? From what I understand you mean simply fastening it inside but not having an opening for it...more like just circulation? Is that right?

Demonicon - I'll take your advice. Since it's already here no reason I can't take a gander.

Thanks
