HELP! MY SYSTEM CAN"T FIND MY DVD_ROM OR CD_RW?

Somtimes when I turn on my system I cannot use my DVD-ROM or CD-RW devices. So I reboot and head to the bios. When I get to the bios it says that they are not installed! I haven't had any problems for months, and now this.. I went in to my computer and the devices were not there either? I rebooted twice and sure enough they were back. I did a full system diagnosis booting off of a diag CD and found floppy problems but none when it came to the two devices above. Can somone help an ignorant user? Please?

Open it up and check for a loose cable. Reseat all the cables.

get a new ide cable
