HELP! My Startup Screen SHRANK!
I rebooted my computer and my startup screen shrank. What I mean by this, is it looks ilke it's a 640x480 screen size on a 1024x728 monitor.

it has also happened on my friends machine too, and we didn't install any new software...

We're using the exact same laptop, Compaq Armada m700, Windows 2000, SR2, 320mb RAM.

I want to know how to get the start up screen big again!!

Thanks

i think you accidentally pressed the function key + F5 (or is it F7?).
i had this "problem" before, and the cause was basically that key will show you either full screen or smaller version of the screen (also applies to games as well).

i don't have my laptop with me at work, so i can't see it. but just try that (i think the function key is marked with "font" or something...). just try function (Fn) + F5 or others and get the correct one up

this may be the best advice yet! (people keep telling me to install the drivers, etc.. bah.

Anyway, do i do this while in windows or in dos mode? or when i see the small screen?

(why does it do this in the first place, what's the reasoning be hind it?, for presentations???)

well, i would try that when the startup screen comes up.
that's when you can try the different buttons to see the result, right?
i only remember Fn + F10 is to eject cdrom, so don't need to try that

the reason behind it?
don't know ....
but for one the smaller startup screen looks nicer than the regular size of the startup screen (at least for me)
other than that, well .... no idea

An LCD has finite pixels, so if it has a total of 1024x768 pixels and the image it gets is 800x600 pixels, then it will only use 800x600 pixels to display the image, resulting in a "shrunk" look. The way around this is to enable video stretching (or "screen expansion", or something to that effect) in either the BIOS or a machine specific option dialog.

I checked the bios for screen expansion or something to that effect... and I don't find anything.

I also tried FN+F1, F2, F3, --- F12, and nothing worked!

any other suggestions??

PROBLEM SOLVED! I called tech support and the solution is you just have to hit "FN+T" at bootup. I guess I may have inadvertantly hit it..

hmm... mine (dell inspiron) can be changed with Fn+F7 (i checked at home yesterday)
guess it differs from each laptop
oh well, at least your problem is solved 🙂
