there should be a hole the diameter of a paper clip, try pressing it. it should cause the drive to attempt to open continuously or something like that. try prying it open while its undergoing the cycle. if successful, take out whatever cd is in there and lube the gears, or just rma it. this info i got from some other dude that figured out the problem himself, not sure how accurate this is, but i read it a few months ago.

Make sure you unfold the paper clip and insert it straight in the hole until you feel resistance, then force it harder. This should open the drive. Usually people don't stick the paper clip in far enough.

If there is no CD/DVD in the drive now, it's RMA time unless the power plug has come loose.

If there is a disc in the drive, try the paperclip with the power off, pushing it (far) in should open the drawer just slightly and let you manually pull the drawer open to get at any CD/DVD inside. If it was jammed, this might fix the drive.

Is there a disc in the drive? If not then do not worry about it. All CD drives made in the past 10 years have a small opening so that a micro-screwdriver or paperclip can be stuck in there to open it in the event of failure. If you purchased a retail Plextor then it should have came with a tool specificly for this purpose (All of mine have). If It wont work fish around and push hard, it takes a bit of effort for the drive to budge a milimeter. When you stick a paper clip in there you are pusing against a small drive pinion (gear) so it will take many revolutions of the pinion to make the drive door open; just like manualy opening an electric gararge door. Like Dave said check the power connection and try a differnt molex plug.

If neither one of these work, all is not lost. Just remove the drive from the computer and turn the drive up-side down. There sould be either four or six screws, remove them and slide the metal casing off. The drive slot should be visible, just push it out till it extends all the way out 'till it reaches the normal loading posistion; do not try to remove the disk while it is still inside of the drive you may damage certain precise components.
