I got this PC custom made around 8 months ago, by a shop which has now shut down. I only just got the IPCONFIG fixed recently so it could connect to internet!!!!

It is always hanging, lots of 'not enough memory to open program', lots of fatal errors, illegal ops, when i play Counter Strike it will even restart itself:

Here's what I have.

If you are getting those types of errors with win98, try disabling all you can from msconfig. If it still errors out, you should consider formatting the drive and starting clean with a new install of 98 and the latest drivers.

Wow, that is amazing that they put Win98 on a brand new machine. No wonder they are shut down. Hope you get your problem fixed, and yes, upgrade your operating system if you can afford it!

anything that new with windows 98 is sure to crash. you need to update your OS. badly!

i would also recommend running memtest86, but remember, this test may not pick up faulty ram, so trying new ram and go about your daily routine is better if you got some spare ram. since you're running 98 it's hard to reduce the problem factors. try a new OS, try different sticks of ram if problem still presists and maybe check the CPU temperature just in case.

Windows XP home or pro depending on your budget. pro has a few advantages
but they may be overkill for what you are doing on your computer.
XP is much more likely to have drivers for your major components
than 2000. it's also better at managing system memory and is just as
stable.
