Help, my P133 is having trouble

That's right y'all,

I'm setting up an old P133 on a FX motherboard. It used to have win95 on it, so I tohought it would do real well with 98lite. I formatted the drives to Fat32 and installed everyting through Cab files. Now it "lags"(understatement, over 5min sometimes) on boot up and sometimes hangs on shutdown. Everytime it accesses the DSL, it freezes and requires a reboot. I'm completely confused. I've run Wintune and Sandra on it and all the harware seems to work fine. Please Help!

As always,
D

What is your ram?
Defrag your HD.
You have a very very slow processor.
Are you running win98? P133 is slow for it even with "98lite."
What software do you use for DSL?

Thanks Reg,

I have 128mb of EDO ram. I'm not sure if it's all "good", but it worked in 95. I'll try defragging the HD, but it's just cleanly installed, all I did was add Netcape and RasPPoE for the DSL. Thanks for the quick response.

As Always,

P133 w/128MB shouldn't lag with Win 98. That's plenty fast for a full Win 98 install.

Here's what I would try, keeping in mind that I know what 98lite is but have never used it.

1) fdisk/reformat
2) install Win 98, not 98lite, see if it all works. Then you will know if the problem is with Win 98 or with 98lite
3) did everything you have installed now work under Win 95?

The idea is to narrow down the number of things that could be causing the problem.

OK, I figured out my NIC was causing the lag, but it didn't do that in Win95. I took it out and it boots fine, however I now have no DSL. I will keep trying if y'all can keep helping, thanks.

As Always,
D

Did you get the latest driver for your NIC card?
It could be a driver issue since you said the NIC worked fine in Win95.
128MB Ram is sufficient for win98.
