I am running Windows XP.
The fresh install is less than 2 weeks ago. I rescently installed Norton antivirus 2002 2 days ago. I rescently disabled "system restore" and now I have a trojan virus on my explorer.exe and cannot remove it.
I checked all my drives and it only shows up on 1 file.

The file is less than a meg, I would apprecieate it, if someone could send me the file, so that I can replace it.

shouldn't Microsoft's new critical file protection [tm] prevent you from overwriting or deleting this file? explorer.exe is integrated into various pieces of the OS; you may have to boot to DOS and restore it manually.

The Norton disc is bootable, at least the one for Systemworks is, and you can run anti-virus from it. This is something you should do first, because it's pointless to copy a file to an infected system.

Once that's done, you can boot from the XP disc, select the recovery console and copy explorer.exe from the /I386 directory on the CD to the /Windows directory on the hard drive. If the copy command doesn't work to expand the file, expand.exe is in the /Windows/System32 directory on the hard drive.
