Help! My Nexus 5 has vertical lines on screen

So last night at the movie theatre, my phone slipped out of my pocket and hit the floor. It wasn't even that high of a drop and now my nexus 5 screen has vertical lines running across it! There is no physical cracks on the screen after examining it.

I've contacted google, and they said they will send me a replacement phone, but they will charge my credit card for a new phone. However, the charges will be released if it is determined that it is covered under warranty. Based on the photos, will this be covered under warranty? There is no cracks on the screen, but I'm not sure if google will open up the phone and see if there is any internal damage.

Please help!

Oh I am very sorry but I assume you must have a lot of time on your hand. Obviously I am posting on a FORUM asking for suggestions and feedback not some useless non sense. So please don't bother responding anymore.

Seems kinda ridiculous that they'll charge your card IF it's not under warranty, like they couldn't just ask first.

Anyway, try restarting it (cliche, I know). And I'm not sure if this works with all devices, but my iPad had a red hue all over it when I dropped it once, and I looked for solutions, which was to slap the back of it gently. I did it and the red hue disappeared. Remember, gently slap it.

Google doesn't have the time to open up the phone and inspect for damages, my sister sent in a nexus7 with a damaged usb port and cracked screen and they sent her a new one no questions asked. But you mileage may vary.

I just find it ridiculous, that dropping it roughly 7 inches off the ground will cause the phone to have this vertical line across the screen. Even with a case on screen protector on.

It isn't ridiculous.

Stuff break all the time.

A screen protector isn't going to protect the internals of the phone. The phone case doesn't really help either, since I assume your phone case isn't built like a tank and protects against shock damage (shock from the drop)

The fact is, based on your own story, the drop directly caused the screen's malfunction. No matter how ridiculous you think it is, it is clearly caused by physical damage, which is not covered by the standard warranty.

Now, will Google allow you a warranty repair/replacement? Maybe, if you're lucky. But do you deserve it? No.

Thanks for all your input, however I am sure if this happened to you, you would likely try the same thing. Paying close to $400 for a product that breaks from such a minor fall IMO should not be acceptable.

That said I won't be sending it in to Google and just live with the consequence. My previous iPhone sustained multiple falls onto concrete and had never had issues with the screen.

Suggestion is buy a new phone, you dropped it.

*shrug*

My wife did the same thing recently and shattered the screen a bit but still uses it.

I told her to suck it up and live with it, was only a couple days old.

But I will keep posting, that is what the forum is for. You have publicly admitted dropping the phone, and want to cheat out the maker stating that phone is defective when it is not.

Wrong. We're not only honest, we're tech folks. Replacing the panel is a pretty straightforward task, and if you live in a city is easy to find someone else to do it for you.
