Help...my NEC ND-3520A refuses to work

😕Hi, I have just built my new machine with a NEC 3520A DVD burner. I have set it up with IDE as master. My system recognizes the burner and shows it as 'working properly' in properties, but when I pop a disc into it, it doesn't load the disc at all. It seesm to spin a bit, but fails. When I click on it in Explorer, it tells me to 'Please insert a disk', but there is a disk. It doens' work for any type of disk.
Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? Do I need anything else than the WinXP drivers?

AMD 3200+ (Winchester)

WinXP Pro SP2

I've put in DVD ROM, music cd and cd-rom, have not even gotten to the stage of trying anything with blank discs. Your help is enormously appreciated.

Unfortunately tried the two that came with my board, plus tried the one from my old PC. Even connected the drive to my old PC entirely and wasn't reading anything either. Does this mean that the drive is bad and I should return it?:disgust:

A lot of folks (myself included, with NEC3500) have had problems installing optical drives with Nvidia-chipset motherboards - when using the Nvidia IDE/ATAPI driver.

Rolling back to the standard Windows IDE/ATAPI driver cured my problem.
