HELP!! My mouse keeps slowing way down!

Lately when I have been playing games like tribes 2 or EQ shadows of luclin and my graphics get really intense my mouse will slow way down.. It's as if someone went into the control panel and dropped my mouse speed to 1/4. None of the mouse settings are actually changed. I have to reboot my computer to get the mouse back to normal most of the time. Sometimes after my mouse slows down it will completely freeze.. then a couple of seconds later.. BAM!! it will free itself and be normal speed again. The overall hardware is okay.. Im pretty sure I have some sort of software problem or conflict somewhere going on.

Asus A7v133
Via 4in1 4.36
Xtasy Ti 500
256 Pc133
MS optical mouse connected to the USB port (I tried usb and ps2.. it makes no difference)
Thunderbird 1.2ghz

Heres what I have tried.. I have moved the mouse to the ps2 port and disabled usb. I have rolled back my video driver from 27.20 to 23.10. I have rolled forward my via driver to 4.37. Last night I rolled my via driver back to 4.35, but I havent had a chance to mess with it. I have tried various mouse drivers from MS. I have tried the generic mouse driver from WinMe.

This is a new problem.. I havent had before and I have been running this same setup for 6 months other then the vid card, which I have been running for 2 months.

I had a similar problem on my p3-450 a while back. If I infer correctly, you are using ME. Are you by chance also using Virus Scan 5.+ and/or McAfee Offfice 3.0? If you are, disable Safe and Sound in Virus Scan and go into msconfig and disable the virusScan log file. They created havoc with my mouse movement, and slowed the system right down. Hope this helps.

I am using ME, but I dont have any virus software that I know of.. at least I havent installed anything.. if there is something embedded in ME.. thats a different story.
