Help!! My mouse has the SHAKES!!!

I had a Microsoft scroll mouse on my computer and would sometimes just start moving to the top of the screen without touching it. If you did move it, it would stop it's upward journey and work fine -- not a big deal, just annoying.

Then, that mouse completely died so I got an Optical Microsoft Intellamouse. Now it has the shakes!! It doesn?t move to the top of the screen like the old one did, it just jumps when moving it. Like if I move it to the left it might jump 1/2" to the right, (or up, or down), then snap back to where I was going to begin with. You never know where it is going to go, but it is always close, it never jumps across the screen. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, changed every setting in every way I can think of, no help.

Now here is the clincher---After my scroll mouse died and while waiting for my Intellamouse to come in, I tried a no-name, cheapo, two button, 10year old mouse, off an old HP I have setting in the corner of my garage, and IT WORKED FINE!!!(or did for the week or so while waiting for the Intellamouse)!!!!!!!!!! 😕

Any ideas???? I like the feel of my Intellamouse and I don't want to give it up. Please help, this is driving me crazy!!!

BTW I am running Win2000 on a Abit KT7-raid with AMD 1G

Try a bright colored mousepad or bare desk. I have the same problem with my Logitech optical mouse so when I'm gaming I just put a white piece of paper on a clipboard as a mousepad.

Every once in a while I'll notice my optical mouse causes the cursor to quiver. It's invariably a hair or dust in the LED channel. I blow out the dirt and it's fine.
