it locks up very very often, and i am forced to reboot in the game. it happens at randon times, it would just stop and freeze there forever. a similar problem happens in GTA 3 too. sometimes, after i rebooted, i get a message saying the possible cause is my Radeon 8500 from windows xp. im using the latest catalyst drivers and im not overclocking anything! whats wrong! i tried default settings and even rage3d recomended settings.

my CPU temp might be a problem though...i just checked my 1.4 Tbird and it displated 64C in my bios...now 64 seems a bit high, but i dont know. it was nearly idle too! is 64 too high?

-_-, so what do i do now? get a new heatsink? im not overclocking or anything, so i dont want to underclock any less then how fast the CPU is supposed to run. im using the stock heatsink, and its very loud, so im thinkin volcano 7?

Where did you get your heatsink from? It's very possible that it isn't equipped to handle your particular chip, and you might just need to upgrade to an AMD certified heatsink. I bought one (moderately expensive, but it extended my chip warranty for a year) for around $16, and my XP 1800+ runs at 40C under a full load when my room is hot. Hope that at least provides you with a basis of comparison.

I agree with the others about case cooling. Adding additional fans to get that air moving in my cheap case made a big difference. I have an average hsf - Taisol - and my T-bird 1.4 runs in the mid-40's under full load. An additional thing you might want to check is your vcore setting. When I checked my bios, my vcore (set on Auto) was reading 1.84. I lowered the vcore setting to 1.65 which, in turn, gave me a reading of 1.74. So lowering the vcore .10 and adding an additional fan dropped my cpu temps almost 10 C. Just some thoughts - hope that helps.
